When doing business in the community, Chamber President Kim MacGregor of Edward Jones has asked the Board of Directors, staff and now Chamber members to adopt “Members First” as their motto for 2019.
"I am so excited with our new focus,” MacGregor said. “This is a focus we should have and, honestly, for the most part, have been using. However, by naming it and putting a focus on it, this forces us to look at our members first even for something as simple as ordering a pizza for lunch.”
“As president, it is my hope this sentiment will also spread to our members, as well, from our mom and pop businesses to our larger employers,” MacGregor said. “Approximately 190 businesses are members of the Chamber of Commerce. Why not guarantee their longevity by making it a practice in our personal and business lives to do business first with fellow members of the organization. These are the businesses that have taken a chance on Dowagiac by opening and operating a business here. They are also supporting our community through their membership in the Chamber of Commerce.”
“Please try to think of the person next door to your business or just down the street,” MacGregor said. “First ask yourself, are they a Chamber-member business? Secondly, is this where you can buy your next needed item?”
By acting upon the motto, “Members First,” we are building upon and incorporating the concept of Small Business Saturday, celebrated each year in November, into our daily routine. “Let's work together, rely on each other and support one another!”
