1870 HOUSE

Opening this spring, 1870 House is a spacious whole-home rental that combines the best of both worlds, as old-world grandeur meets today’s conveniences.

Built in 1870, this gorgeous historic home features five bedrooms and sleeps up to 10. Located in the heart of the City of Dowagiac, 1870 House is a short walk from Dowagiac's bustling downtown.

1870 House has a welcoming enclosed side porch complete with swing, multiple first-floor living areas, and a formal dining room that is as stunning as it is Instagram-worthy! Two of the five bedrooms are located in the Derby Wing, which can be closed off from the rest of the house and also provides desks to accommodate remote work or schooling.

Shuffleboard, anyone? The living room features a shuffleboard table and a selection of board games to keep you entertained when you're not watching one of the two smart TVs in the house.

Feel like cooking? Use the full kitchen, stocked with cookware, utensils and basics, or the grill in the beautiful backyard. Don't feel like cooking? You're close to a plethora of great options in the area.

You'll marvel at 1870 House's unique grandeur and not soon forget your experience.

A new committee, Decorate Dowagiac, announced today their mission of building upon and enhancing the City of Dowagiac’s traditional holiday streetscape decorations.

“Our goal is to enhance the basics that are already in stock, and add some new features,” stated Melissa Gunn, committee Chairwoman. “Because commercial décor is expensive, this is going to be a group effort in fundraising in order to build a variety of decorations over a few years.”

Gunn stated that the first goal is to embellish the City Christmas Tree that is set up in Beckwith Park annually.
