First United Methodist Church is a welcoming congregation that has been worshipping in the community of Dowagiac since 1859. The public is welcome to attend. Sunday services start at 9:25 a.m. with a nursery provided during worship.

    Chamber Spotlights Deerpath Recyclers

    Deerpath is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The company accepts car, truck and semi tires.Deerpath Recyclers Inc., located within the Dowagiac Industrial Park, opened its doors in 2006 as a tire recycling company.

    The company is a registered tire collection site with the State of Michigan, and is a registered tire hauler in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Wisconsin.

    For the past 10 years, Deerpath Recyclers has worked with the State of Michigan on its Tire grants. The state issues grants for tire cleanups throughout Michigan. In doing so, Deerpath has been involved with many of the local community tire cleanups.

    Once the company has collected tires, it has a machine that chops them up into smaller pieces. The crumb rubber is then used to make different products and landscaping material.

    Ongoing Construction Transforms Storefronts

     Behind concealed windows, as interior construction progresses on downtown storefronts, later this spring renovation moves to the exterior, where one building, in particular, will enjoy a long awaited face lift.

    In March the Downtown Development Authority's Design Review Committee approved Facade Incentive applications from Shannon Lyons and Cathy McBride for the old Harvey building at 143 S. Front St., where both the front and rear facades will be redone.
